STILL

A quiet gesture. A flame held in stillness.

Still

As a sculptor, seeing something take shape in your hands is a wonderful feeling. It is a process I have fallen in love with.

But creation is rarely a straight journey from A to B. There are moments of doubt, fear, and dead ends. Sometimes, when you are completely stuck, the only way forward is to destroy.

There is something strangely liberating about destroying a work. At several points in my life, I have made a fire and burned my work. Perhaps it is the force of the fire, or the ritual of watching something disappear, but in that moment, destruction becomes a way of creating space.

Not only on the worktable, but within myself. An empty space where something new can begin.

Still grew from this idea. A work created to be burned.

Each candle burns in its own way. Slowly, the flame transforms the form, and the sculpture becomes something else.

I invite you to light the candle. To let it burn. To let the work change.

And when what once existed is no longer there, perhaps something still remains.

A memory of the form.
A moment.
An experience.

Something that can no longer be touched, but still exists.

Still, within you.

Between Light was sculpted in clay at my studio in Beijing. Winter 2025-26

Bronze

The sculpture is casted in bronze at a traditional art foundry, and produced to the highest international standards of fine art craftsmanship.

Edition Size

This sculpture relates closely to my other works, but differs in that it is designed to hold candles. To highlight this difference, I have chosen to create it in a higher edition, making it more affordable and accessible.

Candle Fitting

This candle fitting was designed specifically for the sculpture Between Light. It is made in solid brass and can be unscrewed from the holder, making it easy to clean from melted candle wax.
